I get many questions about bridal showers. Who gives them, what can we do, etc. As an overview:
Bridal Showers are meant to be a joyous occasions where a bride is given gifts for her new home or for herself. They are usually hosted by a maid/matron of honor or someone close to the bride or groom.
Traditionally, bridal showers have been informal events given at someone’s home or at a restaurant. In recent years, there has been an influx in more non-traditional venues. Museums, tearooms and even bed and breakfasts have served as nice venues.
Themes are a huge ingredient of a great bridal shower. They can be very classy and sophisticated to, well, let’s just say adult-Rated. It really depends on the personality of the bride and the guests of the party. Everyone has been to a bridal shower that was boring and very unexciting.
Some people want a very different and exciting bridal shower. The biggest thing that you can do to jazz up a shower is to pick an unusual theme. You can have the guests bring things in for different rooms of the house, supply lawn and garden things, lingerie for the bride or even get the bride and groom things for their honeymoon, either apparel or components (i.e. travel, accommodation or amenities) for the trip.
Always remember to send Thank You notes! There are some great ideas to guarantee that brides get this done in a timely manner. For example, envelopes can be placed at the entrance of the party and every guest can address them as they arrive. That way the bride already has envelopes with everyone’s address on them.
