The Last Resort for Aman and a Woman

Posted on Friday 30 May 2008

Yes, it’s a mystifying title for a blog post, but you’ll get it in a sec. I’ve found the most amazing resorts for a destination wedding, and they’re all owned by the same company. I can’t improve on their own concept description: “The ethos of Aman is founded in simple luxury that is afforded by an exceptional location harmoniously blended with a unique environment resulting in contemporary and finely tuned resorts that offer, with outstretched arms, an enriching, enlightening and rewarding ‘lifestyle’ experience in which to willingly surrender.”

When I discovered these exotic destinations, I knew I couldn’t choose just one to highlight. There are more than a dozen resorts around the world—each one dramatically different, each one offering an inspiring wedding ambience that would have to be chosen by the soul it touches most. Majestic mountains, sparkling seas, pristine beaches, fragrant flowers, rainforests—you can put yourselves in a universe without limits.

Intriguing and enticing, the resorts will lure you to Bora Bora, Bali, the Caribbean, Morocco, Java, Moyo Island in the Flores Sea (I had never even heard of the Flores Sea!), Sri Lanka and Grand Teton National Park (practically in your own backyard!) And if you plan to get married in your own backyard, perhaps you’ll consider one of these luscious locations for your honeymoon. Any one of them puts the “O Man!” in “rOMANtic!”

I figured this last photo would get your getaway juices flowing. Imagine heading here when you turn in for the night. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could be your suite for the night at Amankila on Bali. Next year, I’ll be celebrating a milestone wedding anniversary, and I think I’ve found a world of possibilities for our celebration destination!

Wedding Makeup

Posted on Thursday 29 May 2008

A little makeup can go a long way.  Every bride wants to look wonderful on her special day and usually makeup and hairstyle are the key players in facilitating this.  Any bride that gets her hair and makeup done for her wedding is going to have an instantaneous glow about them.  All eyes will be on you so you want to make sure that both are flawless.

The latest trend in wedding makeup is the fresh and soft morning look.  There is nothing too heavy, just a very simple and chic feel with light colors or a hint of a sun-kissed look.  When contemplating which look is for you, make sure to incorporate your normal look.  Some women don’t wear a lot of makeup, so for your special day, you wouldn’t want to go all out and have heavy lipstick, eye color or blush.  You want to have a very natural “you” look.  This is the best way to really stand out and make a statement.

Hair is following with this same trend.  Gone are the days of the very elaborate up-dos.  Popular choices include simple chic - very soft curls, loose buns at the nape of the neck or even buns with curls.  A lot of people are even going with hair extensions to get that long flowing look for their tresses.

To borrow a phrase from a well-known cosmetic, “easy, breezy” is the goal.  After all, anything that reduces stress that day is a welcome trend!  Even better when it is also a beautiful one.

Ye Olde Marriage Certificate

Posted on Wednesday 28 May 2008

I was flipping through the latest copy of Modern Bride magazine (which by the way is searching for their next Modern Bride of the Year for those you modern gals who might be interested), when an entry in their “News & Notes” section caught my eye.

If you’ve got a copy, check out page 122’s “Something Old…” tidbit.  It’s about a man named Jeff Cane who produces marriage certificates that look like medieval documents.  The company is called An Englishman in LA.  They produce all manner of things from candles to crosses to wooden tablets.  Ah, but what we wedding-centric folk are most interested in is the marriage certificate (see that lovely piece on right?).

If you’re looking for something unusual and interesting, this may just fit the bill.  You can get the certificates framed or “Cast in Stone” (tile piece).  I’ll warn you it is not cheap, starting at $195, but they certainly are beautiful work.  I’m thinking it would make lovely anniversary gift as well.

How nice to have a resident scribe!
