Wedding Colors - How will you choose?

Posted on Tuesday 29 April 2008

When it comes to choosing wedding colors, some brides know absolutely what they want and how they want it.  Others, haven’t got a clue.  Personally, I know what I like when I see it, but the mere thought of choosing coordinating shades gives me nightmares.  That’s when I have to call my mom for help!  So what’s a bride to do when she’s ready to choose but doesn’t know where to start?  Luckily, you have options.

Red White & Black - done the adorable way!Brides are often told to choose their favorite color.  Well, if you’re like me, my favorite colors are red, followed immediately by black.  Not really what I personally would have chosen for a wedding, even my own wedding.  Unless, of course, you wanted to go for a theme wedding or something ultra modern, yes?  I mean, done wrong, red, white and black is so… Santa…  Although, I’m obviously not the first person to consider those colors - see this discussion at Brides.com where the forum member is asking about this very combo.  And neither would I have thought to use this so darling combination pictured left.  Goes to show you what I know about color, eh?

Scrubbers, color wheel by Dancing FishAnother approach is to take the color pattern from something you’ve seen that you like - a napkin, a curtain, a picture, etc.   Now, having the eye to catch a workable combination is a gift in itself.  You could consult a color wheel, or like Dancing Fish at Flickr, you could make your own.  Talk about an eye for color!  That’s cool.  Naturally, you can always consult your wedding planner and surf the usual bridal sites for color and palette advice.

I bet if you take a look around your personal space, you’ll find something that stands out.  In my case, I was writing when I realized all I had to do was look up to see the colors I would choose.  I’ve got a small reproduction of the beautiful “Moonlit Falls” by David C. Miller.  Between that and the wonderful “Window to Paradise” I wish I had, I know that tropical blue-green serenity would be my goal.

Wedding Week at The Food Network

Posted on Monday 28 April 2008

Those of you who have been with us a while I know I’m an unrepentant fan of the Food Network. Not only is my favorite teddy bear of a tv chef there (love that Emeril), but they always have great wedding related information. This week is no exception! Starting today, Monday, April 28th, they begin a week long focus on weddings.

Individual Orange & Chocolate Cheesecakes from the Food NetworkWedding Week will include some wedding-centric shows (including Ace of Cakes) and menu and party ideas at the website (brunches to bite-size desserts and all sorts of stuff in between). See what the celebrity chefs, like Paul Deen, have on tap for wedding days. You can catch up on shows like Weddings Unwrapped and get some bridal shower menu ideas too. There is even a place to chat with others at the Cake Community.

Now… finding the time to actually watch some of that this week? Hmph, take my schedule - please! :)
