Last night ABC’s Primetime had a bit called “Bridal Gown Behavior Lab.” Go take a look if you missed it… I’ll wait… All done? I must admit, I was torn.
On the one hand, for the topic itself - I would totally tell my sister, friend, cousin, etc. what I thought. Although I would temper negative feedback with alternative suggestions - “That’s a good style but maybe…” y’know, what I mean? If I’m the bride bringing my friends/family along - well I obviously want their feedback. Even if I said, I found the dress I want you to see it! Because if they hate it, then I want to know that too.Â
On the flip side, there were some people who said, well, I’m being supportive of the bride’s choice. Well, that’s true. There are times you zip it and just nod. There certainly are plenty of opportunities in weddings, aside from chosing the gown, for people to do just that.Â
If you want to read the article instead of the video, you can read up at A Wedding to Remember: Shopping for the ‘Perfect’ Dress.
As for the experiment itself, while its fascinating to know how people reaction in all kinds of situations, I’m not sure I would have been very pleased with ABC or the bride if I’d been on the receiving end of that “behavior lab.” It’s a good thing so many of the “marks” were good sports.
What would you do?
