I’m usually the one my family turns to when it comes to adding a personal touch to birthday cards, love notes, special “gift poems” and the like (wedding vows & invitations too). But I have yet to have someone ask me for help with a wedding ring inscription! (Hmm, perhaps because I can wander on the wordy side of the street? lol)
I came across Allthingsfrugal.com where they had a large list of choices. As I scrolled down, I found “My Precious” which was good for a giggle since I’m a serious Lord of the Rings fan. So with Gollum’s gravelly hiss of “precious” echoing in my ears, I set out to see how much I could find about wedding ring inscriptions. After a short visit to Myprecious.us where the Hobbit Name Generator informed me my hobbit name was Jevyan Stoors of Bywater, I realized I’d better get back on track.
I chose to hop over to one of my “go to” sites, About.com’s weddings section, and see what Nina Calloway had to say. She has some lovely choices ranging from simple to romantic to funny. I also checked out iVillage Garden Web’s forums where I found someone asking for novel ideas for inscriptions. Then I hit Socyberty.com’s 75 REJECTED wedding band inscriptions, laughed some more and realized, whups, I jumped the track again. Back to the search… Who would have thought it was so hard to find some serious stuff here?!
Well and so, how about TheKnot.com? There we go, Engraving Tips & Ideas. That was better! Some good tips there.
And then, I found an Allexperts.com question about what Beverly Hills 90210’s Brendan and Kelly had inscribed on their bands… “Hello? McFly?” I think this is the end of the journey. The train has pulled into the station and I, for one, have had enough.
So, I’ll say this about that - if you’re after an inscription, choose something that is personal. If that means funny, romantic or symbolic, then so be it. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not appropriate for a wedding band inscription. DO choose carefully. It will be with you the rest of your wedded life. Do you want to be explaining “my pre-shuuuus” over and over in the next decades?
