Wedding Roles: Maid of Honor

Ah, the maid (or matron!) of honor. Traditionally, brides have chosen their sister, best friend or a close family member. I’ve even seen some forum discussions lately about brides who ask their moms to fill this role. More modern choices have included the bride’s brother or long-time male friend, in which case, the title becomes “Man of Honor.”

So far we’ve covered wedding responsibilities for: Bridesmaids, Best Man and Groomsmen. Our last post in this series gives you a checklist for the Maid of Honor.

Maid of Honor

  • Helps the bride select bridesmaids’ attire and the wedding dress
  • Helps address invitations and place cards
  • Attends the rehearsal
  • Helps the bride get into her gown
  • Makes sure that all bridesmaids, flower girl, and ring bearer are at the rehearsal and ceremony on time
  • Arranges the bride’s veil and train before the processional and recessional
  • Holds the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony
  • Witnesses the signing of the marriage certificate
  • Takes care of the bride’s gown and accessories after the reception

That wraps up our wedding role series. Hope your attendants are checking their lists twice this season!
