Wedding Roles: Groomsmen

We continue our look at wedding party roles with the groom’s band of merry men! If you first time attendants are a little nervous about it, no worries. It’s like your normal circle of friends, just kicked up a notch, or maybe, more like a mini-sports team complete with uniforms! And just like any team, working together and knowing your playbook in advance makes for smoother plays and a heck of a game!

So what is the game plan for the groomsmen? Take a look:

Groomsmen / Ushers

  • Go to fittings for tuxes and pick them up before wedding
  • Contribute to the gift for the groom
  • Attend the rehearsal
  • Make sure that designated people receive special flowers or corsaages
  • Greet guests as they arrive
  • Seat guests prior to ceremony
  • Remember the order for seating of the couple’s family members
  • Follow any lists of guests who are to be seated in a specific pew
  • Hand guests programs when they are seated
  • Put the aisle runner in place after guests are seated, before the processional begins
  • Stand at the alter alongside groom (groomsmen only)
  • Direct guests to the reception site
  • Look after elderly guests
  • Dance with bridesmaids and other guests at the reception
  • Return tux after wedding

There you have it. Afterwards you can high five it for a job well done! (Although, you might want to leave the backside smacking to the football players!) Tomorrow, we wrap up our series on wedding roles with the Maid of Honor. Go Team!
