Some grooms don’t have to think twice about who their choice is for best man. Others may take a while.  Either way, you’ll want to keep them in the know about the wedding plans and their duties. If you aren’t using a wedding planner (and even if you are), the best man often finds himself the “go to” guy when it comes to helping the groom manage “stuff!” (That’s one of my husband’s favorite “guy phrases” - stuff - so technical this man.)
Some of that “stuff” includes:
Best Man
- Goes to fitting for tux and picks it up before wedding
- Organizes any prewedding party for the groom
- Attends the rehearsal
- Gets the groom dressed and to the ceremony on time
- Makes sure the groom has the marriage license with him
- Makes sure all groomsmen and ushers are correctly dressed and in place on time
- Delivers any payments to officiant and ceremony musicians
- Holds the bride’s and groom’s wedding rings during the ceremony until the vows are spoken
- Walks in the processional and recessional
- Witnesses the signing of the marriage certificate
- Welcomes guests at the reception
- Offers first toast to bride and groom at the reception
- Dances with the bride, maid of honor, mothers and guests
- Helps the groom get ready for the honeymoon
- Gathers up and takes care of the groom’s wedding clothes after he changes
- Collects and returns the groom’s tux (and his own)
- Helps Maid of Honor bring gifts to the couple’s residence
- Has a car ready for the bride and groom to leave the reception or perhaps drives them to their next destination
So there you go best men. Good luck supporting your groom! And go easy on him, he might be a bit nervous. ;) The rest of you groomsmen can check with us tomorrow for your own list of stuff!
