Wedding Roles: Bridesmaids

Welcome to our series on the roles of the wedding party members!  Today through Friday, we’ll be doing a little review of the main wedding party members and their responsibilities.   These are general guidelines meant to help you and the friends and family you’ve requested to fill those roles with planning and preparing for the big day.

So, without further ado, here’s the checklist for the -

Bridesmaids

  • Take care of their own dress and accessories fittings
  • Assist the bride with errands and various prewedding tasks
  • Attend the rehearsal
  • Walk in the processional and recessional
  • Dance with groomsmen and other guests
  • Help gather guests for the first dance and cake cutting
  • Help look after the couple’s elderly relatives or friends

Naturally, those duties will vary with the type, size and style of the wedding and reception planned!  Although, if you have one totally adored but totally feather-headed friend, you might want to leave bigger tasks to a less flighty bridesmaid! ;)

Tomorrow, we’ll talk about the Best Man’s role and, yes, that’s more than the bachelor party planner! Heh!
