What’s a creative couple to do when they’re looking for something a little different in a reception? Maybe you aren’t fond of the whole formal sit down meal? Consider the following options:

Dessert Reception - this sweet option should take place late in the day/evening preferably past the dinner hour. Make sure you note on your invitations that it is dessert only. Aside from the wedding cake and grooms cake, think petit fours, mini-cheesecakes, and so forth. One of the delights of this type reception is seeing how incredibly small pieces can be so beautifully decorated. Be sure to have fruits and possibly cheeses for those abstaining from sugar rushes! Serve with sparkling waters, coffees & teas (espresso bars make a nice combo here) and, of course, champagne! Chocolate fountains optional - some love them, some hate them.

Breakfast or Brunch -A breakfast or brunch served buffet style following a morning ceremony is a wonderful warm option. They remind me of after church Sunday brunches with the family. Think pancake stations, fresh fruit, pastries, and bagels. Perhaps a crepe bar would be your style? And, naturally, champagne or champagne punch, mimosas, coffee, tea, or bloody Mary’s.

Tea time -Ah the perfect afternoon tea! Include finger foods, cookies, scones, croissants, muffins, flavored iced teas & coffees, whatever you imagine that includes! These can be a bit more formal or a bit more casual depending on your mood. Be sure to information your guests which!

Cocktails -If you love the formal feel but aren’t up to the price of a sit-down affair, this a great choice. Think elegant dress and oh so chic locations - formal gardens or even art galleries, toss in a bit of dancing and you have a great old Hollywood classic cocktail hour (6:00pm to 7:30pm).

Naturally, time of day will play a big part in your final choice. If you’re planning on theme wedding, then the reception will obviously reflect that.
