Weddings Plans & Daylight Saving Time

It only happens twice a year, but what a big to-do it can cause! Yes, it’s Daylight Saving Time again!

As we get ready to “Fall Back” this weekend, consider leaving or making reminder notes where you may need them. (Keep this in mind if you have plans on the “Spring Forward” weekend in ’08 as well!)

If you’ve planned a morning rehearsal, breakfast or ceremony, be sure to remind those involved of the time change. In fact, it wouldn’t hurt to send a reminder email to your contact list. You do have a contact list for the bridal party, right? (If you haven’t done that yet, a pre-saved group in your email address book is a great way to keep organized!)  Shameless plug ahead: our wedding planning software is another great way to post messages to your wedding party complete with comments, pictures and forwarding features.  Give it a try for free.

Fun Facts:

  • The official spelling is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight Savings Time.
  • Arizona, Hawaii and Indiana are the three states that do not observe the change. (Although, until this past April, Indiana did complicate things a bit more! Part of the state is in Central Time and does observe DST, while the rest in the Eastern Time zone do not!)
  • 70 countries around the globe, participate in daylight-saving time.
  • Many fire departments encourage people to change the batteries in their smoke alarms during this time. Keeping that schedule is a convenient way to help keep your home safe!
  • Many people credit Benjamin Franklin for creating Daylight Saving Time when it was, in fact, invented in 1905 by an Englishman named, William Willett.
