Trousseau or not Trousseau – A Bridal Lingerie Question

Bridal Lingerie

If you haven’t yet given a thought to picking out a wedding night - gown, it can be quite the adventure!

If you normally sleep in a t-shirt, you probably aren’t looking to get all Victorian on your wedding night. There are beautiful short satiny chemises that will let you feel as comfortable as your favorite t-shirt while still letting the groom appreciate your new outfit.

Dillard’s has some lovely lingerie choices that include some Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta.

Naturally, the Victoria’s Secret collection is another popular place for brides.

Those of you looking for, shall we say, racier options can find many more links through Google or your favorite search engine. While I won’t risk posting links to non-G rated sites, the sheer (pun intended) variety of styles and options I found was just amazing.

Historical note: trousseau – a dowry, from French meaning a small bundle, archaic usage meant a woman’s possessions that accompanied her to her marriage including her clothing, lingerie, and even linens! And for the fun of it, check out a flash from the past at Trousseau.net and see what might have been included in an 18th or 19th century bride’s trousseau. These items were often stored in “hope chests,” a custom still in use in some places today. My mother has one. It is a gorgeous, intricately carved wooden chest. While it’s an exquisite piece, I’m certainly glad I wasn’t born in a time when I would have had to fill one of those with items I’d sewn myself! I’m more likely to skewer my thumb than thread a needle!

The modern trousseau includes new clothes, appropriate for the honeymoon location, sports gear if required, luggage – in other words, things that fit you and your lifestyle.

Happy shopping!
