Discussing Bridal Shows with Industry Insiders – What a bride should bring.
While I conducted individual interviews with our wonderful industry interviewees, I’ve decided to post their answers together, grouped by topic. That way you can have all the responses in one place and get a better idea from the insiders!
One of the best things about consulting people in the know is the great variety of answers you get! You’ll see below, Richard and Amye, had exact opposite reactions to one point about what a bride should bring to a show! One pro bring a friend and one con bring a friend. See their answers and think about which friend you’d pro and con!
MWH: WHAT ARE THE TOP 3 THINGS A BRIDE SHOULD BRING TO THE SHOW?
RICHARD: How about one to bring and two not to bring? Bring an open mind. Do not bring: Your best friend if she is consistently selling you on “her style.” Any naysayers, they will just take away from the experience.
AMYE: A friend or family member, pre-printed labels with name, address, phone number, email address and wedding date, and a date book.
JENNIFER: Stickers!!! Print out your name, address, wedding date, number in party, telephone number and email address. They usually charge brides that go to the bigger shows a few dollars per page of AVERY LABELS, but it’s worth it to take the time and get organized before the event.
Bags! Even though the shows usually provide a big bang for handouts, nine times out of ten, the show bag will break. Invest in a bridal bag that is strictly for your wedding.
Comfortable Shoes!! I sound like a grandma, but it’s exhausting to stand with vendors and walk the entire length of a convention center with high heels on. The shows are a wealth of great information and you can even book your entire wedding at one show, however, be aware that you need to do as much research on the vendors as you can so you don’t get burned.

Hmm, interesting point - to bring a friend or not? I’m going to have to go with my first instinct and say ‘yes’. For me, I know my best friend will support me all the way but her and I are very much alike. I could see how conflicting tastes could spoil the show.

I don’t know about the friend thing. I agree with both sides. I have gone alone and gone with friends and I don’t recall having issues either way. I just think the shows are fun!
