What a hot topic! I was browsing different forums today and found this little sizzler about the “cake smash.” Here’s the link if you want in on the chatter: Cake Smash forum.

If you haven’t seen this before, it’s what happens when the bride and groom share their first slice of wedding cake. They are supposed to feed each other the first bite. Somewhere along the line, this lovely symbolic gesture ran into a practical joke truck and the Cake Smash was born! Some people love it. Some people hate it.

Truly, this is not an area you’re going to find any grey! Not having any set numbers at my fingertips (hmm, might have to take a poll LOL), I’d venture to guess more brides than grooms are saying NO to this particular tradition. One poster asks where this might have originated. Frankly, I didn’t find any satisfactory answers in my brief search. I may have a new goal! Hehe!

My only advice is - please listen to your spouse to be, especially if they hate the idea.
