If you’re planning to honeymoon outside the U.S., you should know that places like Mexico and Canada that previously did not require passports now do. These regulations have changed due to increases in security precautions since 9/11. Double check the requirements for your destination.
You should plan to get passports at least two months prior to the honeymoon. Check out the USPS page on passport information for more details. While there is expedited service available, it does require a larger fee ($60.00 in addition to the regular acceptance and application fees).
Also note! According to the US Department of State processing times for passports have increased. Summer is usually a busier time of year for travel.
Read through both sites carefully and make sure you are prepared. One more thing, if you are changing your name, you’ll also want to change the passport issued before the marriage so it matches your name AFTER the wedding! Get these instructions and the proper form.
Happy & Safe travels!

Great advice Kristen. I remember our last trip to Mexico (many years ago) and we didn’t need a passport…guess things have really changed.
