Theme Dreams

Posted on Saturday 27 January 2007

Looking to plan something different for your wedding? Want to do something that reflects your individual style? Personally written vows aside, have you considered a theme wedding?

From the seaside barefoot bride to the medieval maiden and her knight (Texas brides should see Scarborough Renaissance Weddings), there are some wonderful ideas out there to help make your wedding day truly and uniquely you.

Planning a theme wedding can be a great way to express yourselves and your love.

  • Were you grade school sweethearts? Reflect that in the dĂ©cor – apples for the teacher can grace your reception tables, have your pictures taken in school desks, etc.
  • Are you both sports fans?
  • Do you share the same background and culture? See the bride in the cowboy hat and veil!

Don’t be afraid to explore! Check out a few more ideas here:

An Imperfect Day

Posted on Friday 12 January 2007

Wedding GoodbyesThe bane of every wedding planner is something, indeed, anything, gone wrong with their big day. Don’t even imagine for a second that it could be less than the dream day, right? Well, as the saying goes - Brides plan, Life laughs, or something to that effect!

While we all strive for perfection, to not forget the smallest detail, to have everything go exactly as planned, there is something to be said for those unexpected and far from perfect moments. It may be that that is the moment that is remembered years down the line, each second of it outlined in brilliant crystal clarity.

Case in point, my parents have been married 41 years. Although the photographs of the wedding and reception are small and a bit on the faded side, it seems to have been a wonderful production from start to finish. I see the beautiful bride in her lovely gown, the tiered cake, the flowers, the family and oh, yes, THAT picture. The evidence of their imperfect day caught on film. It’s the first thing you’ll hear about if you were to ask my father what he remembers of his wedding. He’ll say, I fainted.  Yeah, you got it. My dad, the 25 year old tough guy cop, fainted at the altar. How’s that for nerves? Of course, he will remind you it was a church with no air conditioning in the tropics of Panama. No, I swear, I’m not making it up! I know Mom thought she would be a widow before she was done being a bride.

Obviously, they revived the groom and went about their wedding and their lives - else I would not be here to tell the story! While Mom may remember if the cake was decorated to match the flowers or if the maids of honor hated their little pillbox hats, she might have forgotten why they picked that stationary for the invitations or what music was playing during their first wedded dance. The one thing she won’t forget is looking down at her groom passed out cold on the floor. Clearly, a disastrous moment that was fated to become part of family lore, a tale told over and over and over again.

Though, when it is told, I see the look on their faces and I know there is something perfect about that imperfect moment in that almost perfect day.

Congratulations to our Wedding Hero’s of the day, Charlie and Marilyn. Do you have a great wedding story to share? We would love to hear from you…contact us.
